Trims Available
There’s only one trim available for the X1. The BMW X1 xDrive28i starts at $49,054.70* (with Steptronic transmission ) or $55,635* (with automatic transmission).
Infotainment and Technology Features
The X1 has a user-friendly 10.25-inch digital instrument panel for the driver and a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen nestled together under a curved glass panel.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wirelessly integrated, meaning useful functionality, like Google Maps, will be reflected on the driver's instrument panel and the heads-up display. The wireless charging pad comes as part of the Premium Package.
Exterior Design
The X1 has a funky, sporty look with a huge grille sporting BMW's iconic design. The car sits on bicolour alloy wheels, and the exterior accents are aluminium.
There are various exterior colours, and additional features can be included under the different packages available. These include satin aluminum roof rails and window surrounds, electronically controlled mirrors, and a glass sunroof.
Interior Comfort and Cargo Space
The interior of the X1 follows BMW's high levels of comfort and style. The stunning dash with its curved glass panel catches the eye. There's seating for five adults and very usable cargo space. The seats are trimmed in Sensatec, and there are options regarding the colour of the interior and the accents.
As with the exterior, there are options for seating and seat covering in the additional packages. These include a Sensatec dashboard, M seats trimmed with faux-suede, and an M-branded steering wheel.
The X1 is a true SUV in that it has ample cargo space. With the rear seat back up, the vehicle has 505 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats. The bench rear seat will fold, 40/20/40, offering 1,550 litres of cargo space when all are folded flat.
Performance Features
The X1 has one engine that can be mated to one of two transmissions. The engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor incorporating a Miller combustion and dual injection systems. This motor makes 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The two transmission options are a seven-speed Steptronic transmission with a dual-clutch or a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The X1 comes with a raft of driver assistance aids and safety features. These include adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, rear cross-traffic monitor, and reversing camera.
Additional aids are included under the various packages. These include BMW's Professional Driving Assistant, keyless entry, smart operation for the boot lid, garage door opener, and remote unlocking.
Additional Packages
To keep the cost of the base vehicle as low as possible, many features have been bundled into optional packages.
Premium Essential Package includes keyless entry, automatic unlocking, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a glass sunroof and a wireless charging pad.
The Premium Enhanced Package offers all from the Essentials Package plus a heads-up display, BMW's Drive Recorder, BMW's Digital Cockpit Professional, parking assistance with a 360-degree camera, and a Harman Kardon Audio System. For an additional cost, there’s an interior camera to record photos and video from inside the cabin during your trip.
The M Sport Package has performance upgrades such as adaptive suspension, gloss black window surrounds and aluminium roof rails, leather steering wheel, M seats, and a Sensatec dashboard.
